President Anura Kumara Dissanayake removed former Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva, who had been appointed as the President’s representative in the Constitutional Council with immediate effect, and appointed Minister Vijitha Herath.

According to the current constitution, even if the parliament is dissolved, the constitutional assembly should function under the chairmanship of the speaker until the next parliament convenes.
According to the current situation, Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena continues to act as the Chairman of the Constitutional Council.
Its other members are Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, Opposition leader Sajith Premadasa, former MP Kabir Hashim, former MP Sagara Kariyawasam and civil organization representatives Dr. Pratap Ramanujam, Dr. Anula Wijesundara and Dr Dinesha Samararatne.
