UNP Leader PM Ranil Wickremesinghe and Deputy Leader Minister Sajith Premadasa are once again set to meet for a special discussion today in a bid to resolve the ongoing issues surrounding the UNP’s Presidential candidate. 

The National Identity Card (NIC) used by Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) presidential hopeful Nandasena Gotabaya Rajapaksa to register as an elector in the 2017, 2018 and 2019 electoral lists had been invalidated by the Department for Registration of Persons (DRP) in October 2016.

Ranil Wickremesinghe for the first time is said to be considering a proposal put forward by several UNP seniors to nominate Sajith Premadasa for the upcoming elections as the UNP’s candidate.
