Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapaksa has decided to be a candidate at the presidential election.
He was due to meet the media at Arcade, Independence Square this morning at 10.00 to make a special announcement.
Several media were due to stream it live.
He is said to be having the support of the Maithripala Sirisena faction of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party.
