President Ranil Wickremesinghe and his chief-of-staff Sagala Ratnayake will be responsible should any harm come to my life, said sports minister Roshan Ranasinghe today (27).
Making a statement in parliament, Ranasinghe said he could get killed on the road any day.
Asking the speaker not to omit what he was saying from the Hansard, the minister asked if the president was appointed with 134 of their votes to take revenge on them.
He said further that matters at Sri Lanka Cricket would be resolved at the next presidential election to rid it of its corrupt and fraudulant officials who brought down the game.
Questioning the president’s remarks at the UN about eliminating corruption, Ranasinghe asked as to why he was being targeted for trying to rid sports of corruption.
“Give me my right to life. Give me my right to life for the sake of my wife and children. I will not flee to another country on asylum visa,” he added.
Sajith speaks on behalf of sports minister
Opposition leader Sajith Premadasa asked that irregularities at SLC be investigated before working against the sports minister.
The cabinet has decided to curtail the powers of the sports minister, who is empowered by the sports act to appoint interim committees, he noted.
