The United National Party (UNP) will amend its constitution in line with the system change demanded by the people during their uprising last year, said the party’s general secretary Palitha Range Bandara.

The UNP working committee that met yesterday (02) decided to amend the constitution to suit the system change required by the country, he said.

Chaired by president Ranil Wickremesinghe, the WC met at Sirikotha to discuss a new constitution and holding the party’s 77th convention on 10 September among other matters.

It also agreed to reinstate Manusha Nanayakkara and Harin Fernando as WC members.

In addition, strengthening the party’s executive committee to make it a decision-making body, setting up a separate committee for political affairs and organizing the party via online also came under discussion.

The president thanked all for having held 132 Bala Mandala meetings, although he had instructed for holding 75 meetings only, added Range Bandara.
