As part on ongoing reforms in the CID by public security secretary Ravi Seneviratne, a female officer has been named to head the institution for the first time.

She is SSP Imesha Muthumala, a holder of BSc and LLB degrees, who joined the police as a trainee ASP in November 2007.

Muthumala also has had overseas training in USA, Thailand, Malaysia and India.

If there is a possibility, she could get higher even to be the police chief, as she retires from the service in 2041.

Muthumala was appointed deputy director of the CID in June 2021.

In the meantime, P. Ampawila has been named to be the DIG in charge of the CID.
