Deputy chairman of the ICC Imran Khawaja is expected in the island next week to inquire into allegations of political interference in Sri Lanka cricket.

The International Cricket Council appointed a three member committee to assess the allegations.

The high profile committee comprises its official Khawaja, India’s cricket board secretary Jay Shah and Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hassan.

Khawaja is due to hold talks with SLC officials and membership and wind up his visit by meeting the sports minister.

The SLC has complained to the ICC with regard to political interference in its affairs and attempts to amend its constitution illegally.

If the allegations are proven, the SLC stands to lose its ICC membership and risk its participation in the World Cup qualifiers.

Meanwhile, a committee headed by president’s counsel Navin Marapana has been tasked with making recommendations to amend the SLC constitution.

Already, Sri Lanka Football has been suspended by FIFA over political interference, while the International Olympic Committee is inquiring into similar allegations with regard to Sri Lanka’s National Olympic Committee.
