Sri Lanka beat Ireland by an innings and 280 runs in the first Test in Galle.

Batting first, the hosts declared their first innings at 591 for six.

Dimuth Karunaratne, Kusal Mendis, Dinesh Chandimal and Sadeera Samarawickrama scored centuries.

Ireland managed only 143 in their first innings with spinner Prabath Jayasuriya taking seven for 52.

Following on, they were bowled out for 168 to give victory to Sri Lanka with more than two days’ play remaining.

Taking three more scalps, Jayasuriya completed a match bag of 10 wickets.

Ramesh Mendis captured four for 76.
