Six arrests have so far been made in connection with the murder of businessman Surendra Wasantha Perera alias Club Wasantha.

A shooting at the opening of a tattoo centre in Athurugiriya yesterday (08) left Perera and another dead and four others, including singer K. Sujeewa, seriously injured.

Among those under arrest are the owner of the tattoo centre.

Police suspect drug trafficker Kanjipani Imran to be behind the attack carried out by two men carrying T-56 rifles, who had arrived in a car.

Police media spokesman Nihal Talduwa has told BBC Sinhala Service that investigators were looking into if the murder had been planned overseas over a dispute between two groups.

The car and a van used by the assailants to get away had been found by the police.

Perera, 55, was chairman of Sunhill Group and owned several hotels and karaoke centres in Nuwara Eliya and Colombo.

He had also held director positions in several state institutions.
