With speculation rife in the political circles about a change in the health portfolio, infighting is on for the position, said reliable political sources.
Already, an independent MP with a doctorate and another opposition MP – both being health ministers previously - have unofficially reached the government hierarchy with a request for the cabinet position.
The Presidential Secretariat has not responded to either request yet.
However, a female MP who functions independently and also a specialist doctor, is likely to be given a supervising role in the health ministry.
Incumbent Keheliya Rambukwella is pressing on with a social media campaign to safeguard his position.
