Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa was a notable absentee at the House debate and vote on the resolution on domestic debt restructuring (DDR).
He gave reasons for his non-participation, when he addressed a party meeting in Hiniduma.
Decisions taken to rebuild a country should be populist, Rajapaksa said, adding that any DDR should be just and fair.
“We have a responsibility to stabilize this country. We have a responsibility to strengthen this country,” the SLPP MP said.
Rajapaksa questioned the SJB’s last-minute change of heart, when it voted against the resolution.
The resolution was passed at a vote with a 60-vote majority.
