The trade unions collective of professionals has decided to suspend its island-wide trade union action.
The decision came following a meeting this afternoon (15) at the Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA) office attended by representatives of the 40-odd striking TUs.
Government doctors said at the outset they would not support an indefinite work stoppage.
However, university lecturers and CEB unions wanted a continuation, with the rest of the TUs speaking against it.
The meeting ended with agreement by all to halt the strike action for the time being.
TUs in the health, port, electricity, banking, water supply, postal, education, transport sectors engaged in the work stoppage to protest new income taxes, increase in interest rates, salary anomalies and the electricity tariff hike.
They are to end their union action at midnight and give seven days to the government to address their issues, with a decision on the next course of action to be made on March 21.
