The Ministry of Wildlife and Wildlife Conservation will be taken forward as a major foreign exchange earner for the country, said new subject minister Pavitra Wanniarachchi upon assuming duties today (26).
She told ministry officials the tourism sector could be given a big boost through their efforts, reforestation being one of the main objectives.
Rights of the wildlife as well as issues faced by the people should be given lasting solutions, said the minister.
The human-elephant conflict was another key issue that came under discussion at the meeting.
Buddhist clergy, minister Mahinda Amaraweera and ministry secretary R.M.C.M. Herath were among those present.
