Sri Lanka's main opposition Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) will not receive the support of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) to form an interim government under the leadership of the SJB, a senior member of the ruling coalition said.

Although several SJB stalwarts had reached out to the SLPP seeking the support of the party to form an interim government, the party has decided to not to extend its support as credible information has surfaced that some of the attacks on properties belonging to government MPs and their supporters were executed with the blessings of SJB members.

However, the SLPP will support the formation of an interim government if consensus can be reached among all parties in Parliament, he added.
