Government informants have allegedly terrorised Tamil civilians and activists who attended separate court hearings into an enforced disappearance and a mass grave.

State intelligence officials frequented both the court premises as well as the outside, as the Mullaitivu magistrate’s court took up the cases on 08 August.

Head of the association of relatives of missing persons there, Mariyasuresh Eswari, said she was asked by someone at the court entrance if she had a case heard on that day.

Now, she said, they have serious doubts about their safety.

TNPF secretary and MP Selvarasa Gajendran said certain people had to turn back from the hearings due to this situation.

According to him, state intelligence, CID and TID men were seen in the area, and the government uses them to prevent victims from airing their views.
