The VAT that has been introduced for food, education and health will be removed, National People’s Power (NPP) Leader and Presidential Candidate Anura Kumara Dissanayake said at an election rally in Akuressa recently.

He said the NPP has a plan to build the country step by step. “But until then, the basic needs of the people must be met. We need a programme to build the country. It will take some time to implement the plans. Until then, the people should be taken care of,” he added.

He also said that a future NPP government will reduce electricity tariff, fuel prices, food prices and the cost of education and medicine.

He said after a NPP victory on September 21 the Parliament will be dissolved in a very short time and a general election will be held.
