Former Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne is reportedly preparing to support President Ranil Wickremesinghe in the upcoming Presidential Election, according to a political spokesman close to him.
The spokesman reported that a special meeting took place last night (12) in Panadura, with a representative from the President’s side and the former minister’s close relatives.
It is expected that the former minister will make an official statement regarding this support after performing religious rites at the Gangarama Temple in Colombo this afternoon.
Additionally, a group of former Local Government representatives from the Kalutara District is also expected to attend the event.
Dr. Rajitha Senaratne, representing the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) from the Kalutara District in the last General Election, is one of two MPs elected from the party from the district.
Political sources indicate that activists affiliated with the SJB in Kalutara are preparing to hold a press conference today, to assert that the former minister’s political decision will not impact the Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa’s winning in the Presidential Election.
