The appointment of a SJB national list MP to fill the vacancy created by Harin Fernando has been deferred until the conclusion of the presidential polls, party sources said.
There is stiff competition for the seat by members of both the SJB and the alliance led by it.
The Supreme Court yesterday (09) upheld the expulsion of Fernando and Manusha Nanayakkara from the SJB to be legally valid.
Later in the day, both resigned from their ministerial portfolios.
Bandarigoda to replace Manusha
Meanwhile, Bandulal Bandarigoda is tipped to be appointed to the seat vacated by Nanayakkara.
He is next in line for the position among the SJB candidates who won the highest votes at the 2020 general election.
