NSSP leader Dr. Vikramabahu Karunaratne has been remembered in the north province as a leftist leader who had been harassed throughout for having fought for the rights of the minorities.
He died on 25 July, aged 81.
This is the first time commemorations have taken place in the north for a Sinhala politician, correspondents report.
One of the events took place at the TNPF office in Jaffna on 27 July.
Another by Tamil National Greens Movement took place at Tirunelveli Bright Inn Hall in Jaffna on 04 August.
Civil society activists in Vavuniya too, organized a remembrance for the late Sinhala politician.
