A Tamil woman from Batticaloa, who has been demanding to know the fate of the missing persons from war-affected areas, has been summoned to the TID for questioning.

The questioning of Amalaraj Amalanayagi for nearly four hours on 30 July was condemned at a media briefing on the same evening at the Batticaloa Press Club.

She said the files shown to her containing documents in Sinhala described her to be a terrorist.

The intention is to halt their struggle on behalf of their loved ones who went missing during and after the war, she said.

Amalanayagi also said that TID officials in Batticaloa wanted to know if she maintained any links with the LTTE and if they received diaspora money.

She rejected both.

Protests took place in all eight districts in the north and the east in the last week of July to demand justice for the missing.

Head of the relatives of missing persons in Vavuniya Sivanandan Jenita questioned the basis for investigating them under the PTA for struggling democratically.
