Dodampahala Rahula Thera has urged SLPP leader Mahinda Rajapaksa to withdraw the candidacy of Namal Rajapaksa and extend support to independent candidate Ranil Wickremesinghe.
He made the call at a meeting of monks in support of Wickremesinghe at Abhayarama Temple in Narahenpita on Sunday.
The temple’s chief incumbent, Muruttettuwe Ananda Thera said, “Ranil Wickremesinghe is the only leader capable of leading this country. I will say it anywhere.”
Rahula Thera told the event that support given to other candidates against Wickremesinghe is support against the country’s true religion, security and language.
