The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) has decided to field Dhammika Perera as its presidential candidate, said party headquarters sources.
He has agreed to the offer made on a decision by the party leadership.
Its general secretary Sagara Kariyawasam says the candidate will be announced next week.
Speaking to ‘Anidda’, he said incumbent Ranil Wickremesinghe cannot be their candidate, since he has placed the deposit to contest as an independent candidate.
He added the statements by the SLPP ministers and MPs that they are with Wickremesinghe were irrelevant, because the party trusts its supporters.
