The members of the retired armed forces will move forward undaunted with the National People’s Power, said retired Major General Aruna Jayasekara, the head of the Retired Armed Forces Collective.

He was addressing a media conference of the retired tri-services collective held yesterday (29) at the JVP head office at Pelawatta.

Jayasekara said, “After serving for many years, we clearly understood the tragic situation in the country after retirement. We always have respect and pride in our hearts for the hard work of the Sri Lanka Army, Sri Lanka Air Force, and Sri Lanka Navy to bring us to this state. After a long study of the country’s current state, a small group was initiated in the last half of 2022 to revive the second operation together with the National People’s Power.

Currently, about forty thousand members of retired tri-armed forces have joined us. Meetings were held to cover all the districts except the North and the East, and the retired military personnel were explained about our responsibilities and duties. As such, they have joined the journey with enthusiasm and dedication. Despite a manifesto regarding national security being presented in the background of 2023, it is being updated and will be re-presented according to the current situation. It has been the policy of this political movement to allow the members of the three-armed forces to live with honour and dignity in a people’s government built by the NPP. Retired armed forces members have to go to hazardous jobs in countries like Ukraine and Russia due to economic pressure. They have the qualities of discipline, organization and dedication that can make a unique contribution to this country and can be used for special duties for the country. Special attention will be given to the problems of those who have left the army and have yet to do so legally, and an environment will be prepared where they can live as honourable citizens.

We are aligning ourselves with great interest in using our special abilities to build the country by struggling against drug menace, smuggling, food security, and financial crimes and freeing the rule of law from collapse. On August 4, the Retired Armed Forces National Conference will be held to convey a special message as Sri Lankans living here and abroad. We are all aligned, the retired Three Armed Forces collective as the first pillar and the retired police collective as the next pillar, including the participation of professionals and excellent people from all fields to achieve a resounding victory at the presidential election on September 21 and establish a people’s governance,” he said.
