President's Counsel Upul Kumarapperuma says the cabinet has no legal authority to question the Supreme Court imposed injunction that prevents Deshabandu Tennakoon from functioning as the police chief.
There is no option other than implementing that particular court order, anidda.lk quoting him as saying.
Otherwise, the cabinet could even be in contempt of court, according to Kumarapperuma.
Taking up nine FR petitions that challenge Deshabandu’s appointment as the IGP, a three-judges SC bench ordered him not to function in that capacity until conclusion of the hearings.
The petitions revolve around the fact that the Constitutional Council approved the appointment four to two at a vote, with two members abstaining.
