Parliamentarian S.M.M. Muszhaaraff has urged parliament to drop using the term Muslim and Islamic terrorism.

The All Ceylon Makkal Congress (ACMC) legislator from Digamadulla told the House on 12 July that he has observed a frequent use of the term by members on that particular day.

He asked as to why those who refer to Muslim terrorism when talking about the Easter Sunday attacks don’t see it as Sinhala terrorism when violence was unleashed upon Muslims in Ampara, Digana and Aluthgama.

Muszhaaraff claimed he was in a peaceful struggle against the use of that term.

He said Muslims were not terrorists, although many countries use that term to serve their political needs.

Speaking further, he said many analyses have found a national, international and political conspiracy behind the Easter Sunday attacks.

All reports indicate the masterminds to be not Muslims, he added.
