Excavations are set to resume for the third time at the Kokkuthoduvai mass grave today (05) following a suspension for more than seven months due to a lack of funds.



Rs. 9.7 million has been approved for 10 days of work at the site where skeletal remains of around 40 persons have been dug up so far.

JMO of Mullaitivu Kanagasabapathy Vasudeva made the announcement to the media yesterday.

Excavations were halted on 21 November.

It has been found that the skeletons belonged to LTTE members buried between 1994 and 1996.

This is mentioned in an interim report submitted by forensic archaeologist Prof. Raj Somadeva to Mullaitivu magistrate’s court in March.
