The Ministry of Health and the association of nutritionists are getting together to modernize the meals given to in-house patients of state-run hospitals.

Quality meals in a container wrapped with a transparent wrapper will be served to the bedside under the plan which is set to begin from Apeksha Hospital in Maharagama in July, said president of the association Dr. Nalinda Herath.

It will later to expanded to other government hospitals, he said.

Hospital cooks will be given special training by five-star hotel chefs and provided with a uniform as well, he said.

For this, the ministry has agreed to raise the money allotted for each patient, with the balance requirement coming from well-wishers, said Dr. Herath.

Those who wish to contribute could obtain further details from nutritionists at state-hospitals, he added.
