Legal action will be taken against police officers who gave wrong information in the setting up of community police committees, said public security minister Tiran Alles.
He was speaking at a workshop in Ratnapura yesterday (23) on community police committees.
Alles said that with support from the public, the country will soon be rid of the underworld and drugs.
He encouraged the public to provide information in that regard and promised the police that they would be protected from interferences, political or otherwise, in their duties.
Those who cannot work against these menaces are free to leave the service, he added.
