Acting IGP Deshbandu Tennakoon, in his first public statements in Kandy, emphasized that his primary goal is to ensure national security and suppress organized crime gangs.

He highlighted the significance of prioritizing national security, drawing attention to the situation in many countries in Asia and around the world.

Acting IGP Tennakoon, who assumed office recently, visited the Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy, paying respects to the sacred tooth relic.

During a media briefing, he outlined his objectives, including addressing the drug menace, especially its impact on schoolchildren.

He assured that a comprehensive plan would be implemented soon to combat drug-related issues.

Additionally, Tennakoon expressed the need to take decisive action against criminal activities involving armed individuals, with a focus on protecting the general public.

The Acting IGP commended the competence of the Sri Lanka Police and emphasized the successful resolution of recent criminal cases.

Central Provincial Deputy Inspector General of Police Mahinda Dissanayake, Kandy Divisional Senior Superintendent of Police Krishantha Ratnayake, Negombo Senior Superintendent of Police Anuruddha Bandaranaike and many senior police officers joined the occasion.
