A political activist has described the budget proposal to release state land to personal ownership as a very important and timely one.
Lawyer Dulan Dassanayake, legal director of Right to Life Human Rights Centre, was speaking to ‘Aithiya Media’ YouTube channel.
He said implementation of budget proposals is something that should be discussed separately.
Anyhow, the president’s proposal on private land ownership is a step away from the state-centred economic model towards capitalist economic development, said Dissanayake.
Property ownership is a human right, while it is feudal thinking that the state should retain it.
That will ensure the independence of farmers and the rural people, opening doors for investment and new technology in the direction of economic freedom and development, he added.
