With no funds being allotted by the Treasury, the Sri Lanka Law College is faced with a severe financial crisis, said its principal Dr. Athula Pathinayake.
He told a meeting of the justice ministry’s advisory committee on 23 August that the college could not continue without levying fees.
Pathinayake answered a question with regard to the basis for raising college fees.
As an alternative, a proposal was discussed to charge a membership fee from practicing lawyers to help maintain functions of the Law College.
Committee chairman Dr. Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe said it would be reviewed further.
