Sports, youth affairs and irrigation minister Roshan Ranasinghe was asked today (04) by president Ranil Wickremesinghe to meet him on 07 August and explain as to why he had breached collective responsibility of the cabinet, said reliable sources.
According to the sources, it is over what Ranasinghe has referred to, at a media briefing, with regard to a particular matter that had been discussed at a recent meeting of ministers.
He told journalists that as the son of a farmer, he was shocked by a decision not to release reservoir waters for purposes of agriculture that have been affected by the drought.
Not releasing the water will disrupt agriculture and cause losses amounting to millions of rupees, he also said.
