Sri Lanka needs to follow a market economy based on fair play and competition in order for the country to progress as a leading economy in Asia, said SJB MP Dr. Harsha de Silva.
Speaking to the media in Colombo, he said the economic advancement of India’s Tamil Nadu state could be taken as an example.
The South Indian state maintains a 14 per cent economic growth by producing and exporting electric vehicles, telephones, spare parts for high-income countries, he said.
Dr. de Silva said achieving a 6.5 pc economic growth envisaged by the president by 2048 from the present negative 3.5 is possible.
It is probable to take Sri Lanka in the path of such a speedy economic growth, but all need to change their line of thinking for that purpose, he added.
