Kidney transplant surgeries at state hospitals are in danger of suspension due to an acute shortage of medicines, said government doctors.
GMOA secretary Dr. Haritha Aluthge said health authorities are now speaking of going for emergency purchases to meet the demand.
In emergency purchases, a valve worth Rs. 200,000 will have to be bought at 10 or 15 times the value, he said, adding that private suppliers might already have imported and kept them in readiness to earn huge profits.
