President Ranil Wickremesinghe has failed in his attempt to divide the opposition in order to gain political mileage, said MP Dr. Nalaka Godahewa.
Speaking to the media today (27), the Freedom People's Congress (FPC) MP said the president’s so-called all-party conference on reconciliation on the previous day was a complete failure.
"The FPC attended the APC on invitation, but with suspicion, which became true as it became clear everything was a media hype.
No one got deceived, and the president failed to divide the opposition.
President Wickremesinghe fell for his own trap, after all parties told him to hold provincial council polls before decentralizing powers," said Godahewa.
He observed that it was apparent to everyone that the APC was an attempt by the president to garner votes.
The MP said it was an instance that proved the accuracy of Abraham Lincoln’s famous quote: “You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can not fool all of the people all of the time.”
