SLPP MP Namal Rajapaksa has called for the “closing of the past chapter” by offering presidential pardons for LTTE members as well as accused members of the military.

Accused war heroes should be given the presidential pardon in the same manner a LTTE terrorist who killed 91 lives by the Central Bank bombing and sentenced to 200 years in prison was pardoned, he said.

He was responding to a question raised by a journalist during a court attendance.

Rajapaksa said he found nothing wrong in the freeing of LTTE members, who are in remand custody for up to 20 years.

In the same manner, war heroes accused over certain charges should be given a pardon by the president, he said.

“We should close this chapter. It cannot be for LTTE terrorists only. I believe this chapter should be closed by giving a presidential pardon to any accused war heroes too,” he added.
