MP Udaya Gammanpila says a 22nd amendment would be tabled in parliament for the removal of police powers contained in the 13th amendment to the constitution.

Speaking to the media yesterday (24) as leader of Pivithuru Hela Urumaya, he said a committee of lawyers has drafted the bill and handed it over to him.

According to him, the 22nd amendment would be an opportunity to test the true patriots among the MPs.

The president’s attempts to grant police powers to gain Tamil votes should be defeated, he said.

Speaking further, Gammanpila said he would attend the all-party conference convened by the president to expose a government conspiracy to nullify the peace achieved with the sacrifices of many lives.
