President Ranil Wickremesinghe departed for New Delhi this afternoon (20) in his first official visit to India as the head of state.

His two day stay there comes at the invitation of Indian premier Narendra Modi and a day prior to the first anniversary of his tenure as the president.

The foreign ministry announced president Wickremesinghe would be visiting New Delhi to coincide with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries.

During the visit, he is due to meet with PM Modi and other top Indian politicians to discuss a range of topics.
