The Colombo chief magistrate’s court has issued a restraining order against 26 persons, including JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake, in connection with a protest to be staged by the NPP in front of the Election Commission in Rajagiriya today (08) against the postponement of the local government polls.

The order has been issued as per section 106 (01) of the criminal procedure code, preventing them from protesting along the Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte Road, Cotta Road, Nawala Road, Sarana Road and access roads towards the Election Commission.

Welikada Police asked for the restraining order, saying the planned protest could inconvenience the public and cause disturbance to the students who are sitting for the GCE O/L examination.
