A consultation will take place today (07) with the electronic media in connection with the proposed broadcasting authority act, said media secretary Anusha Pelpita.

It will take place at parliamentary complex starting at 2.00 pm.

Participating will be members of the ministerial subcommittee that formulated the draft bill – Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe, Bandula Gunawardena, Nimal Siripala de Silva, Keheliya Rambukwell and Manusha Nanayakkara.

Also invited are heads of all licensed electronic media institutions, said Pelpita.

Meanwhile, minister Rajapakshe said no final decision has been taken with regard to a proposal to set up a broadcasting authority commission.

He said a ministerial subcommittee headed by him has been tasked with formulating a mechanism to regulate the issuance of licenses to electronic media institutions.
