The SLFP central committee has decided to annul a letter issued to suspend the party membership of nine of its MPs who have joined the government, said its general secretary Dayasiri Jayasekara.
The letter in question had been issued several months ago by party chairman Maithripala Sirisena.
Jayasekara said the basis for the letter’s annulment was a ruling of a court case filed by Nimal Siripala de Silva and a letter sent by the eight others to the party.
De Silva has challenged the amendments to the party constitution, Jayasekara said, adding however, the charges over their having joined the government would stand.
