Some of the Tamils cornered to a narrow strip of coastal land in the north during the final days of the war survived on Mullivaikkal congee.
This congee was made of a bit of rice and salt boiled in a lot of water.
Fourteen years after the end of the war, a remembrance week began in the north and the east on May 12 with free offers of Mullivaikkal congee made of rice donated by the people.
A rally on May 18 concludes the remembrances.
