National Colleges of Education will this year start training teachers on providing sex education to schoolchildren, said the Education Ministry.
This is pursuant to a recommendation by a parliamentary forum on children that sex education should be given from preschool level.
A lack of training has made teachers reluctant to take up this task, although sex education could be added to the curriculum and textbooks prepared.
The Ministry has termed as impractical a suggestion by some that advanced level science teachers were better suited to provide sex education to lower grades.
