A hartal took place in northern and eastern provinces yesterday (26) against the proposed anti-terrorism act and acts of ethnic cleansing, said the organizers.
Seven Tamil political parties led the day-long agitation also participated by Tamil and Muslim organizations.
Shops, factories, schools and transport services remained shut during the day, while no people visited government offices that were open.
According to correspondents, members of the military were seen videoing and collecting information about the places that were closed.
As part of further action against the ATA bill, all media organizations in the north will be staging a protest at Kilinochchi town on April 29.
