PHU leader Udaya Gammanpila is trying to undermine the credibility of Ravi Seneviratne and Shani Abeysekara, who are key witnesses in court cases relating to the Easter Sunday attacks, alleges the NPP.

Upul Kumarapperuma, a member of the NPP lawyers collective, responded to Gammanpila so during a media briefing yesterday (October 21) in Colombo.

Earlier in the day, Gammanpila shared with the media certain findings which he claimed were from some unpublished investigation reports.

He accused Seneviratne and Abeysekara of ignoring intelligence reports relating to the attacks.

Gammanpila also claimed the report by retired judge A.N.J. De Alwis recommended filing criminal charges against the two.

Top-secret intelligence information was sent under Seneviratne’s name on 09 April, but he had returned to the country only on 13 April.

Responding, Kumarapperuma stressed the then IGP had not instructed the CID to take any action regarding the matter.

Both Seneviratne and Abeysekara are being discredited through Gammanpila’s actions, which could negatively impact the proceedings, said Kumarapperuma.

He warned this could result in many culprits escaping justice due to the damage to their  credibility.
