A new gazette extraordinary has revoked a previous one that declared high-security zones in parts of Colombo district under the Official Secrets Act.
President Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday (01) issued the new notification.
The HSZs declared were the Parliamentary Complex, Supreme Court Complex, Colombo High Court Complex, Colombo Magistrate’s Court Complex, Attorney General’s Department, Presidential Secretariat, President’s House, Sri Lanka Navy Headquarters, Police Headquarters, Defence Ministry and Sri Lanka Army Headquarters in Akuregoda, Sri Lanka Air Force Headquarters in Slave Island and Prime Minister’s Office at Flower Road.
These HSZs attracted widespread criticism and several fundamental rights petitions against them were filed in the Supreme Court.
