England stand-in captain Ollie Pope achieved a unique feat on Day 1 of the third Test against Sri Lanka at The Oval on Friday.

Pope became the first cricketer to score seven Test centuries against seven different teams.

Having been asked to bat first in the third and final Test, Pope led from the front with a knock of 154 from 156 deliveries, hitting 19 fours and two sixes.

Pope is leading England in this season due to the absence of the injured Ben Stokes.

The 26 year-old had made his Test debut against India at Lord’s in 2018.

He scored his first Test century against South Africa in Gqeberha on 17 January, 2020.

His second Test ton was against New Zealand in Nottingham on 12 June, 2022 and followed it up with a hundred against Pakistan in Rawalpindi later that year.

His fourth hundred was against Ireland at Lord’s in June 2023.

The right-handed batter’s fifth, sixth and seventh have all come in 2024 against India, West Indies and Sri Lanka respectively.

England have already sealed the three-match Test series against Sri Lanka with a five-wicket win in Old Trafford and a 190-run victory at Lord’s in the first and second Test respectively.

Pope’s century eventually led the hosts to 325 in the first innings.
