The SJB had to abandon a meeting of its health sector trade unions as only around 20 activists turned up for the event in Colombo yesterday (18).
Party leader Sajith Premadasa decided against holding it due to inadequate attendance 1 ½ hours after it started at 9.00 am at the Exhibition and Convention Centre.
Around 2,000 doctors, nurses and other health professionals were expected to take part.
MP Rajitha Senaratne had organised previous SJB events in the health sector.
But, with Senaratne’s having joined president Ranil Wickremesinghe, organizing this event was entrusted to MP Kavinda Jayawardena.
When contacted, Jayawardena said the meeting had to be put off due to unavoidable circumstances.
He said it was not over a matter of poor attendance.
However, health professionals have told Senaratne that they would not attend the SJB event, aruna.lk reported.
