We all are a united nation of Sri Lankans, and are without a Sinhala majority or a Tamil minority, said Sarvajana Balaya presidential candidate Dilith Jayaweera.
Addressing his first campaign rally in Jaffna on 17 August, he urged the people to reject the divisive tactics of selfish politicians.
Jayaweera asked if northern people knew the southern politicians who burnt down the Jaffna library had their dinner at the homes of northern politicians.
Tamil politicians live luxuriously in Colombo while encouraging ethnic tensions for personal gains, he charged.
Before attending the rally, Jayaweera visited religious leaders in Jaffna and received their blessings.
