The government has decided to introduce a code of ethics for the officers of the Sri Lanka Excise Department (SLED) with the aim of reducing fraud and corruption and increasing excise revenue.

According to that, it is hoped that the activities of the Excise Department will be carried out under a number of modern reforms in the future, said Commissioner General of Excise J. Gunasiri.

Streamlining the department’s internal administrative work, digitizing all work, accustoming the officers to provide high quality service to clients etc. will also be done along with the introduction of the code of ethics.

It will be implemented during the last week of this month.

Under this, the one-hundred-and ten-year-old liquor tax department will be changed to suit the new world.

The Commissioner General also mentioned that the instructions and guidance given by President Ranil Wickremesinghe as the Finance Minister were of great help in this regard.
